Soul Mates

When your Doctor told you that you had "prostate cancer," do you remember any of the other information he discussed with you???

Chances are you may have a memory blank for that period.

If you are reading this, you have taken a deep breath, stepped back from that shocked stare, and have now started taking steps to deal with your condition.

This page provides a listing of men who have had the various prostate cancer treatments. They have volunteered their names and stories for this page in hopes they may be of help to you!!!!

None are medical professionals, so what you can learn from them is not medical advice, but insight into different procedures from a patient's point of view.

Please feel free to phone or email them and discuss your situation with them.

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer August 23, 2001 at age 67. My PSA was 5.7 and my Gleason was 6. I was on Lupron from November '01 through July '02. I started radiation at CHOMP on August 28th and completed the series on October 25th, 2002. For my complete story and radiation diary go to my Periodic Cancer Communication pages or call me or email.

"Murray" – ph 831 726-1967 – email murray.macdonald@attn.net: I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer November, 1994 at age 59. At that time my PSA was 5.7 and my Gleason was 8 or 9. I elected to go for a Radical Prostatectomy on January 9, 1995. My pathology showed lymph node involvement. After surgery my PSA went from 0.0 to 0.01 to 0.015 over a period of 6 months. My urologist suggested hormone treatment, and I started on Lupron and Casodex in June of 1995 . I have remained on continuous treatment since that time.

As of June 1, 2000 my PSA was 0.00. My side effects include total impotence, some weight gain and minor problems with fatigue. I have been a competitive tennis player for 45 years and do some aerobics and strength training. I try to maintain a healthy diet regimen not much meat, low fat, low/no sugar, and lots of fruits & vegetables supplemented with vitamins & herbs. My Doctor refers other patients to me because of my mental attitude and overall experience.

If you would like more information or details about my experiences, you may contact me at the above phone number or email address.

"Al" – ph 831 442-2109 – email allaw28@hotmail.com : I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer September, 1990 at age 57. At that time my PSA was 17.6 and my Gleason was 8. I had a Retropubic Radical Prostatectomy October 10, 1990. The Radical Prostatectomy failed, and I had Conventional External Beam Radiation between January 29, 1992 and March 18, 1992. I have been on Intermittent Combination Hormone Therapy Zoladex & Flutamide from May 1, 1995 to October 18, 1995, and again from March 20, 1999 to December 10, 1999.

I will be happy to discuss my situation and side effects further with any of you newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients out there.
